Original: A surprise announcement was made earlier this week that a Modern Warfare beta would be held this weekend, August 23-25. The Modern Warfare Alpha is not part of the Modern Warfare beta. Modern Warfare BetaThis free sample is coming next month. Modern WarfareOnly PS4 players have access to the 2v2 Gunfight mode.
Activision’s partnership with Sony means that Xbox One and PC gamers won’t have access to the beta, but they can download it next month. You don’t have to use PS Plus to access this beta, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t play online games often.

The Modern Warfare Alpha Pre-load can be downloaded a full day ahead of the expected time, starting at 10 am PT/1 pm ET/6 pm BST on August 22. Although there isn’t any information yet about the size of the alpha, as it is only Gunfight mode, it shouldn’t be significant. You should set it to download as soon as possible, and you will be ready to go when the alpha starts on August 23.
You should be able to find it on the PS Store by searching for “Modern Warfare 2v2 beta”. The PS Store is notoriously unreliable. If you are having trouble locating it, search for Modern Warfare and scroll down the results. You should see it!
The official PlayStation Modern Warfare Alpha blog has more information about the Modern Warfare beta. This includes details about Gunfight and what you can expect over the weekend. Infinity Ward also said that there would be “a lot more surprises as content is added throughout this weekend”, so you might be able to experience more than Gunfight.
